The unofficial things to do Skiing is the main attraction here and a winter resort is run by the Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam (GMVN). A 3 km long slope ranging from a height of 2,519 m is maintained by them, and it is kept fit for skiing at all times. The top of the slope is reached by cable car. There is a temple at Joshimath, 16 km away from Auli where the famous Guru Adi Shankaracharya lived in the 8th century AD. He built a temple here, which still exists. |
